Casual or Member? Here's a comparison to help you decide

Dollars and cents -- for every family it definitely comes down to value for money and we're all in the same boat!  That's why we're designing a community and programs at The Creative Hub Woodend that offer stacks of value for members -- regardless of if you're interested in art, music, film, photography, making or writing!

Let's start with Lessons

We call our 'lessons' Mentor Sessions. Why?  Because we believe that 'teaching' isn't about the 'more experienced' person telling the 'less experienced' person how to do things, what the rules are or how they should proceed with their development.  It's all about a conversation and relationship -- a shared experience where the Mentor uses their professional and lived experience to suggest pathways or goals for the learner -- and then to open doors for them to run through!

When looking at your Mentor sessions most people default to the Individual 30 minute session, so we'll have a look at those.

Youth Sessions

Let's look at a single youth member (18 or younger) having one 30 min session per week and, also what that would look like if they're involved in one or more ensembles.  We'll compare that against the $22 / month Youth Membership, the discounts you'll receive and you can see how it plays out:

So the numbers stack up for Membership all round for our young creatives.  Whether you're working with a Mentor in any discipline membership is always the best route.

Adult + Youth

Next up let's look at what happens if you have both a parent / adult and a young creative learning each week:

In this case it depends on what you're keen to do.  If you just want to have your Individual lessons going the Casual route might be a better deal.  If you're joining in on the fun of an ensemble or workshop the numbers totally stack up (get involved!).  The only thing that will turn the tide is that Members can receive another 2% off when they pre-purchase 16 lessons -- so that will tip the scales for our Membership!

A Family of 4

We really designed the programs and membership at the hub with Families in mind.  The Family membership is structured so that any 4 immediate family members are included in your $86 per month membership.  If you have 3 kids and 2 adults that all want to learn, no worries! -- you can add an additional immediate family member for $10 / month.

The value for families will be in the ongoing activities (calendar coming really soon!) that you can get involved in with our talented staff.  That will include youth socials, crafter meetups, film club, MRYIM sessions and a lot more.  Plus there are vocal and percussion groups that the whole family can get involved in for FREE each week!

Let's have a look at Casual versus Family with 2 of you having a 30 min lesson and all 4 being involved in at least 1 ensemble:

Similar to the Adult + Youth comparison, if you're only looking for an Individual lesson (x 2 in this case) you're better served to look at casual options.  But looking at the big picture as a place for you and your kids to share in learning and community together with plenty of things to do -- the picture is clear!

By the way -- if you have children that are in one of our 12 Ranges Music Network schools and having lessons there, their membership also qualifies them for at least a 6% discount -- and 8% off when you pay for the semester (in advance or pay-in-10!).

If you have any questions about what membership option might be best for you or how to get started please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our team at hub@creativeranges.org.

Thanks -- we're so excited about what the Hub will bring to our community!
